the Besnik Anecdote Project
** Vegetarians beware!!! Don't read this post! **
For our Thanksgiving dinner, we wanted some mish i grire (ground meat.) So, we went to the butcher for the first time to acquire said goods. As I was talking to the butcher about what we wanted, Besnik caught site of the pig carcass hanging behind the counter and started squirming and pointing at it with interest. The butcher started laughing and I tried to explain what it was. Then, the butcher got a look in his eye that told me it was time to leave. It was the same look I saw on the Pasticeri (bakery) man's face before he gave Besnik some truffles. It was the same look I see on Hajrije's face in the shop downstairs before she gives Besnik some tasty cookie or other. Only, this was the butcher and all he had to give Besnik had at one point been part of an animal. So, we grabbed our bag and bid farewell before he could find something to hand over (or before he tried to show off the pig head that was sitting to his left.)

1 Comments:
I can just picture Besnik walking down the street dragging a pig's head!!!
Love, Nana
