First Weekend in Tirana!

We arrived, safe and sound! It was a nice, uneventful trip, and Besnik had a great plane ride. When we got to our connecting flight in Munich, not only did he make friends with all of the Albanian kids waiting to travel to Tirana, he even was kissing one! We stayed at a hotel on Friday night, and did a lot of sleeping (see pics below...).


Day Two (yesterday, Saturday), we found an apartment! It is very nice, and only a block from Skanderbeg Square (the main square with the town hall, opera house, and government ministry buildings). We hear the call to prayer (azan) five times a day coming from the Efthim Bey mosque (a beautiful 19th century one on the square). Besnik is making lots of friends--just now, at the cafe we are at, an older man called him over and gave him a banana! The woman at the shop downstairs from our apartment gave him a yogurt yesterday, too, and last night we had raspberries (picked from the shkodrane berry-saleswoman's yard, she said) at the main park and played ball with some boys!
